31 May 2017 Media release Revised competency standards framework for pharmacists The Pharmacy Practitioner Development Committee (PPDC), on behalf of its member organisations,* is pleased to release the National competency standards framework for pharmacists in Australia 2016. The 2016 framework has been endorsed by all 11 member organisations of the PPDC. This update was conducted as part of a regular cycle of reviews to ensure the profession’s competency standards framework is consistent with contemporary pharmacist practice and the interests of public safety, and reflects future needs of the Australian healthcare system. Media release 13 October 2016 National Credentialing Program for Advanced Practice Pharmacists The Pharmacy Practitioner Development Committee (PPDC), a profession-wide collaborative forum, has been informed of the decision of the Australian Pharmacy Council (APC) to end the national credentialing program for advanced practice pharmacists, effective immediately. The PPDC previously operated as the Advanced Pharmacy Practice Framework Steering Committee, and through that forum, an advanced practice recognition model for Australian pharmacists was developed in 2013. Media release 29 March 2016 Consultation on competency standards framework for pharmacists The Pharmacy Practitioner Development Committee (PPDC), a profession-wide collaborative forum, has commenced consultation on a revised draft of the profession’s competency standards framework. Following the national public consultation activities of 2015, the PPDC has been revising the current document, the National competency standards framework for pharmacists in Australia, to ensure it is consistent with contemporary pharmacist practice and the interests of public safety, and reflects future needs of Australian health care consumers. PPDC Communique 7 March 2016

Communiqué 7 March 2016 The Pharmacy Practitioner Development Committee (PPDC) met last month to further discuss feedback received from its Member organisations in relation to the review of the National competency standards framework for pharmacists in Australia. A consultation paper is expected to be released in mid-March 2016 and will be publicly available for all members of the pharmacy profession as well as interested external stakeholders to provide comment. The consultation period is expected to run until mid-April 2016. Media Release 9 November 2015 Review of the National Competency Standards Framework for Pharmacists in Australia The Pharmacy Practitioner Development Committee (PPDC) has commenced consultation with its Member organisations on a revised draft of the profession’s competency standards framework. The current document, the National competency standards framework for pharmacists in Australia, was published in 2010. The work being conducted by PPDC is part of a regular cycle of review undertaken by the profession. PPDC Communiqué 28 October 2015 The Pharmacy Practitioner Development Committee (PPDC) met this month to consolidate proposed amendments and develop a consultation paper on the review of the National competency standards framework for pharmacists in Australia. The meeting agreed to the following next steps: A consultation paper on the review of the competency standards is expected to be provided to PPDC Member organisations at the end of October 2015 for a six-week consultation period. Communique 1 September 2015 The Pharmacy Practitioner Development Committee (PPDC) met in early August 2015 and has continued to progress work on the review of the National competency standards framework for pharmacists in Australia. Key considerations of the PPDC included the following. Enhancing the domain on Leadership and management. The Pharmacy Practitioner Development Committee (PPDC) met in May 2015 and is pleased to report on the following outcomes. Competency standards review The PPDC was pleased to receive and accept the final report from the Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association (AHHA) on work conducted to inform the review of the National competency standards framework for pharmacists in Australia.  The report presents findings of the background research, literature review and stakeholder consultation which constituted the first stage of the review.
